79.6 @ @ 19.8 max 34.5

Enjoyed cool temps (62° – 80°), cloud coverage and minimal winds for most of the ride around Allerton via Mahomet.  Several faces present that I havn’t seen in a while, nice to chit chat and catch up. As usual, got cooked early and often trying to hold Martin’s pace on the front.

Lake of the Woods nature preserve:

Rest stop at Mansfield General Store, open since 1896, its been on my to-do list to visit with the big camera.

The landscapes paint themselves:

Bikey friends:

Sun finally burned off the clouds outside of Allerton, just before the pace heated up enough and I called ‘uncle’.

Beginning of the end for me, we were down to 4 from 10-ish.

I went Boom. John B. spent lots of time doing his signature hard pulls and Larry with his signature short pulls, sittin’ in and whippin’ out the devastating end of ride form. Martin is just on another planet:

Aftermath self portrait and a solo ride home electing to shorten the route by 20 miles:

Thank you to Martin for circling back and offering to help pull me back to the group. A true gentleman.

Feeling like I did today, not sure I’ll be any good for the Race to the Woods Oct 2. 2011 but I’ll probably give it a shot anyway. Last year was a fun ride.

Also, nutella on banana bread is freakin’ delicious. That is all.
