Travelled Foreigner

Truckin’ along,  ready to stock since my sacrificial half-dead birdsnest was happy all night:

visited Rick’s prop setup and picked up a few nice corals and coralline-covered and mushroom-dotted rock, some of you may know him from the coral green house:

Inland Aquatics Visit

Had the pleasure of returning to one of my favorite coral shops, Inland Aquatics. The reefette and I played hooky from work and spent a nice valentines day wandering the aisles and making aquascaping in the cube tank. Came home with several types of really nice rock and a black limpet.

Crashing Up

FD0A2450

FD0A2451

Allowed the cube to run extra topoff in addition to a freshly recharged reactor and very little bioload coupled with a barely cycled tank spelled my first crash with this system … lost the sps, pods and not a mini brittle to be found. Dosed some vinegar to bring ph back down and did a water change …… noob mistake. Hurts.

On the bright side, misinformed retailer agrees to an exchange of my light for the one I thought I was getting in the first place and glasscages agrees to send out a replacement tank on the next truck through (4 weeks).

Prime Interaction

Backed up blog posting busy working and tending to tank husbandry and setup. Cube received some coralline covered rock that went to 30F in shipping … interesting to see how it reacts. Cruising right along:

2 Pumps 1 Reactor

pull don’t push …. the line with a valve to be replaced by a line feeding second LitreMeter(used from fisheebill) for frag system. LM’s will (hopefully) act as check valves for each other. Intake of fresh water is blue line. Yellow and black are intakes to LiterMeters and clear tubing is output from LiterMeter headed off to the tank. Float valve to the right is safety shutoff for RO unit.

Disappointed Splitting

DSCN7163

Riding the emotional rollercoaster that is reefkeeping, I chased down leaks in both the kalk and ca reactors this weekend after leak testing. Final blow was discovering a leak in a previously glued (not-by-me) sch80 fitting threaded into an acrylic tube. Wondering about them leaking isn’t in the works so they’ll be sold or relegated to operation within vessels connected to a main system. Guessing the litermeter’s burst operation cycle vs slow continual cycle doesn’t help the kalk reactor.
